How do I find eAudiobooks? You can find eAudiobooks the same way you would find any type of NetLibrary eContent. Access the E-books & Audiobooks link from NC LIVE’s Browse Resources page. Select NetLibrary. A keyword search from the NetLibrary home page produces results that include all forms of content available through your NetLibrary collection, including eAudiobooks. If you wish to limit your search to eAudiobooks, you can use the search options available in advanced search or the Audiobook Center Will I need a NetLibrary account to access eAudiobooks? A free preview is available for most eAudiobooks. To download and listen to complete eAudiobooks, however, you must first create a NetLibrary account through an authenticated Web site. You can create one from within your library, after logging in via your proxy server, or by logging into NC LIVE. What do I need to create an account? You can create an account by clicking the Create a Free Account link in the top right navigation of the NetLibrary home page. They may also be directed to the Create a Free Account page if you attempt to access an audiobook without logging in. To create a free account you will to supply a name, email address and password. [Top] What is the checkout period for eAudiobooks? With each download, NetLibrary automatically transfers a license that will allow you to access the audiobook for up to three weeks. The license can be transferred to two additional devices, allowing you to listen to audiobook files on a portable device. Can I renew an eAudiobooks without downloading the file a second time? Yes. eAudiobooks can be renewed at any point by logging into your NetLibrary account. A renewal will provide you with an additional three weeks of access from the date of renewal. If you attempt to open a file with an expired license from your media player, you will be prompted to log in to NetLibrary to renew your checkout Do I need to return eAudiobooks when the checkout period expires? No. The license for downloaded eAudiobooks will automatically expire after three weeks, preventing them from accessing the audiobook file How many eAudiobooks can I check out simultaneously? You may checkout a maximum of 10 eAudiobooks at any given time. After reaching the limit, you will not be able to check out additional titles until the license for a downloaded audiobook has expired. Can I return an audiobook early and get another? No. Since the licenses automatically expire, there is no way to return an audiobook early. Are audiobook files automatically removed from computers when the checkout period expires? Once a checkout period expires, you will no longer have access to an audiobook. However, the audiobook file will remain on your hard drive unless it is manually deleted. Is there a limit to the number of users that can download the same title at the same time? No. Unlike our e-book collection, audiobooks offer unlimited simultaneous usage. [Top] Technical basics of eAudiobooks Will I need to install any software on my computers to listen to eAudiobooks? eAudiobooks from NetLibrary and Recorded Books can be downloaded or played on any desktop, or laptop supporting Windows Media Player version 9 or above, Musicmatch Jukebox v8.2 and above, or Nullsoft Winamp v5 and above. To have an optimal experience when listening to a NetLibrary eAudiobook, it is recommended that you select devices that support features such as bookmarking and full time stamping. Do I have to wait for the file to download before I can listen to an audiobook? Once you select a download option, NetLibrary will prompt you to Open or Save the audiobook file. If you select Open, NetLibrary will download the file and launch your media player. The Save option, allows you to download the file to a directory of your choosing. Once the download is complete, you can open the audiobook directly from your media player, or by using Windows Explorer. How long will my download take? NetLibrary eAudiobooks are provided in two sound qualities, CD (34 kbps) and Radio (4 kbps) quality. Most devices do not support the playback of files lower than 32 kbps. If you are going to transfer and listen to an eAudiobook on a device you should download the CD quality file. An average eAudiobook has 10 hours of playback length. It is about 145MB for the CD quality and will take 13 minutes to download on a cable modem (1.5Mbps) , 1 hour 15 minutes on a DSL (256kbps) line, and about 6 hours on a dial-up modem (56kbps). The radio quality of the same file is about 27.4MB and will take 2 minutes to download on a cable modem (1.5Mbps) , 15 minutes on a DSL (256kbps) line, and about 1 hour on a dial-up modem (56kbps). Can I download eAudiobooks to the computers in my public library? NetLibrary displays a message on the audiobook download page that advises users not to download files to a public computer. However, the NetLibrary system will not prevent users from downloading eAudiobooks if they choose to ignore the warning. If you are unsure whether or not you can download a book to your library’s computer, please check with the local library staff. Can I play eAudiobooks on portable devices? NetLibrary's eAudiobooks can be listened to on a wide range of portable devices, including portable music players, portable media centers, Pocket PCs, and even select smart phone devices. In order to be considered a device that works with our audiobook collection, the only requirement is that the device, must be able to support playback of secure or protected wma files. Where can I find a list of supported portable devices? You can find a list of tested players here All versions of Apple's iPod do not support the protected .wma files used by our eAudiobook collection.

Records contain the standard bibliographic information for audiobooks, including narrator, duration, format, and file size.
